Medallion presentation to Phillips 2007

PRESS RELEASE DECEMBER 28, 2007:   On December 22, 2007, Gillian Phillips was presented with an engraved silver medallion (made by Bejewel) to mark her receipt of the $12,000 Thomas Washburn Memorial Scholarship. A 2007 graduate of Leo Hayes High School, Phillips is a first year electrical engineering student at the University of New Brunswick.

The scholarship is in memory of Fredericton native Thom Washburn who was killed by terrorists in Saudi Arabia in 2004. Thom's mother, Sheila Washburn, made the presentation to Phillips at the Ramada Hotel, assisted by Jamie Petrie, President of the Fredericton Community Foundation, which manages the fund for the scholarship.

It assists the winner to study at an accredited engineering school anywhere in Canada. The 2008 competition closes on March 31,2008.
