PRESS RELEASE June 15, 2008: The Scholarship committee is pleased to announce that Michelle Bendrich is the 2008 winner of the $12,000 Thomas Washburn Memorial Scholarship. Bendrich is a recent graduate of Leo Hayes High School. She will be studying Chemical Engineering at the University of New Brunswick in the fall of 2008. While she has been involved in a leadership role in a number of organizations, she is especially committed to those to do with environmental issues. We are honoured to welcome Michelle to the group of outstanding scholars who are being assisted by the Fund established in Thom's memory.

The previous three scholars have chosen the same university as Michelle. Gillian Phillips has completed the first year of Electrical Engineering, Philippe Couturier the second year of Mechanical Engineering and Kevin Beattie his third year of Geological Engineering, all at UNB. Beattie has received all of his scholarship funds while Couturier will receive assistance for another year and Phillips, for two more years. All have maintained a level of marks that more than meet the scholarship criterion. Congratulations to all of them.
